Chapter 43: The Demon's Last Fights on Nitro and Thunder - August 14 & 16, 2000

WCW's existence was nearing the end, and The Demon's was as well. After a clear hesitation on The Demon's part when Vampiro and Muta needed help, it seemed like some new character development was brewing. After all, the reason why suddenly The Demon joined Vampiro was that he was under a mind control or a spell, but that doesn't really fit, as he's now playing this role of an unwanted whipping boy who constantly comes back for acknowledgment and more abuse.

It was surprising to see The Demon still being with the two, although some payoff was actually coming. On the August 14, 2000 episode of Monday Nitro, Vampiro and Great Muta fought a team called Filthy Animals, and Sting came in at the end with a baseball bat and helped the filthy animals win

After that, the painted trio demanded from the Cat, who booked the fights, to have a 4 way fight with Sting. The Demon was the most vocal about it.

The Cat agreed so a 4 way fight between Sting, The Demon, Vampiro and Great Muta was on.

Of course in a match so heavily on the Sting villains side, Sting gathered all the hits. Well, niot all, since Vampiro was pushing Demon around for getting beat up by a Sting. Wow

Mark Madden: Look at Vampiro, he just roughed housed him (The Demon) outside of the ring

Tony Shiavone: He's been rough housing The Demon ever since he's been under his spell

At the end of the fight, in a surprising or perhaps somewhat predictable move, given the hint on New Blood Rising, The Demon takes the kendo stick away from Vampiro and looks like he's about to finish Sting with it but attacks Vampiro instead and Sting makes the win. Finally breaking away from this group! And, this is The Demon's last match on WCW Monday Nitro show.

Vampiro and Muta get the better of The Demon and Sting and take Sting backstage. There, just as Muta is about to stab Sting with scissors (!!!), The Demon comes and saves him with a baseball bat

Shiavone: Maybe Dale Torborg is smarting up here (...) I think The Demon had this planned all along. What he did to Vampiro, what he did to Great Muta

Two days later, on WCW Thunder, on August 16, 2000, The Demon was set to fight the Great Muta. We see Vampiro earlier backstage pissed off about the "punk ass demon" as he calls him for betraying him, and hits everything with an axe while Muta is meditating...or something, and growling

Vampiro with the return of Russo's writing changed from this spooky, zombie-like creepy horror character into some rap clown with a tag team who starts to feel more annoying and pompous

The Demon comes out first, and for the last time for a fight. He simply comes through the main entrance since the sarcophagus was burned with the Sting episode (see Chapter 39)

Commentators talk about his turn

Shiavone: Why did he do this? The Demon, had he have too much of Vampiro? Could he stand no more?

Mike Tenay: Maybe he didn't like the way he was pushed around

Shiavone: He left The Dark Carnival and is now assisting Sting (...) A new fire lit under The Demon. Sting rekindled this fire under The Demon

Of course, during the match, Vampiro comes out with his new favorite weapon, Kendo stick. It certainly isn't a one sided fight, which is nice. There doesn't seem to be bias against The Demon here. He's doing good, actually really good, but with Vampiro walking around the ring, Muta gets a lot of help and gets the stick tossed to him. The commentators say that The Demon was under Vampiro's control for the past months and that he was like a Zombie, and now seems to be out of it

Shiavone: This is more animated we've ever seen him being for the last couple of months he was like a zombie, like a man possessed, but now all of a sudden he came to life

Still, despite the help from Vampiro, it looks like The Demon is about to win when Great Muta sprays a green mist in his face, scoring a win.

Vampiro jumps on the ring and beats The Demon repeatedly with his stick. He then throws few words for Sting and goes back into viciously attacking the laying Demon with the kendo stick.

And this was The Demon's final fight on WCW Thunder
