On August 13, 2000, The Demon fought Sting at the New Blood Rising payperview. Now, this match has been very often cited as an argument that The Demon was a character who had no chance and was kept low.
Before the fight we see a segment in which Vampiro tells everyone that The Demon will take care of Sting. We see that The Demon has a new cape, colored black and silver now, and also altered his makeup so that his bottom sharp points on the sides are very elongated. I never liked that alteration
Vampiro tells the Demon that he better beat Sting and pushes him again. The Demon only nods grinning, gladly taking the abuse
Mark Madden: This is a big match for The Demon, The Demon has been a whipping boy for Vampiro, Muta
The fight began even before they got to the ring, Sting just kept beating on Demon, threw him into the ring, beat him some more and finished him all in about 2 minutes. So yes, even thought The Demon got a great, A star contender on a payperview, again it's all backhanded because he loses in a moment without even getting any offensive move.
However, there are more interesting things that happened than the actual fight. After Sting had easily beaten The Demon, Vampiro and Great Muta ran in and started beating Sting. To Sting's rescue, Dark Carnival's other "feuders" came in - Kronic, which is Brian Adams and Bryan Clarke. While Adams pounds on Muta, The Demon is seen looking but not getting involved.
Tony Shiavone: Look at The Demon, The Demon just kind of walked by
And again, so surreal to see the two, pretending there's no connection there. The commentators mention the fact that The Demon just walks away, so finally it looks like we're getting back to some character development with The Demon! And it's the second time he chose not to get involved
And while the two giants of Kronic wipe the floor with Vampiro and Muta, we then see a closeup shot of The Demon looking at it and contemplating, and eventually leaves
Madden: The Demon just standing, watching, his partners in crime get destroyed by the tag team champions
Shiavone: One would think he would jump right in there
Vampiro and Muta escape the ring, Brian Adams takes the microphone and challenges them to a tag team fight the same night. The Demon is not involved
