Chapter 35: The Demon vs Vampiro at a Graveyard - July 9, 2000

The day has come. This fight, fittingly for horror characters such as Vampiro and The Demon, does not take place in the arena, but in a graveyard instead.

We follow The Demon armed with a torch, Asya and Charles the referee with a flashlight, cautiously walking around the graveyard, looking for the signs of Vampiro.

They walk around for a while, until suddenly Vampiro jumps from a tree but misses The Demon, which gives The Demon the advantage. The Demon then whoops him for a while. While Vampiro gets an upper hand and chokes The Demon, he offers, or rather orders The Demon to join him.

Just like in the movies, Asya comes in time to the rescue, kicking Vampiro away from The Demon, but Vampiro gets an upper hand with her too.

Vampiro and The Demon fight in an open grave for a while, and then Vampiro takes Asya with her and runs into dark woods. The Demon runs after them. Some shots in the woods are actually looking pretty good and very cinematic.

Vampiro rises out of a pond and pulls The Demon with him. They now both fight in the pond or a lake

Vampiro is the one getting out of water, and takes Asya with him again. The referee saves the half conscious Demon from drowning

The Demon finds unconscious Asya laying next to a coffin and checks on her, when suddenly the coffin opens and Vampiro spits something in Demon's eyes.

Vampiro asks Demon one more time if he will join him or die, to which the Demon replies : "Never!"

For that, he gets a piece of a tombstone smashed on his head. Vampiro throws him into the coffin, and pushes the coffin into an opening, throws a torch in and leaves.

I remember fairly liking the whole story, and the horror angle of it, but not the violent presentation of it, meaning it felt too brutal to me at the time. I remember thinking that Vampiro's too brutal and too close to real life. Sure, he talks about voices in his head and acts like a vodoo creep, but those things aside he genuinely felt like a brutal thug. He felt too close to reality. Nowadays I think the whole thing is neat
