Chapter 16: The Demon vs The Wall - February 20, 2000

The Demon appeared on his first PayPerView on WCW SuperBrawl 2000. The original contract with Kiss that Eric Bischoff signed stipulated that The Demon has to have a main event match on a payperview, which is the spot for the biggest A listers, as he was originally intended to be. Cleverly, to get out of the contract, WCW pitted The Demon against The Wall and called the match a "Special Main Event" even thought it was just a filler placed in the middle of the show, but this way they delivered on their obligation of having The Demon in a "main event" even if only by name. To add to the insult, he even lost the match (which by that point wasn't a surprise)

The Wall was a new big shot in WCW that they developed and placed as one of the main bad guys. As bland of a character as possible, he was another element that made WCW just a copy of the flat, uninspired WWF.

For his entrance, it was the first and only time the big rig was used that accompanied the original Demon, but this time not flares but fire blows were used on it

Of course, The Demon had lost. Seeing what I've seen by then I knew he wasn't a character that was allowed to grow so I suspected he will lose but still hoped and cheered for our Kiss Army Warrior. Seeing how the character was always getting the short end of the stick and lately pretty badly, at least they had the decency to make it an actual fight that would take turns and be evened out.

The Wall got beating and The Demon got beating. Eventually The Demon was beaten with The Wall's finishing move. The whole thing lasted only a little over 3 minutes though...

Dale Torborg: "They had this contractual obligation to do certain amount of matches. And I remember they were complaining because one of it, in the contract it stated that the character had to do a main event in the payperview. And so what WCW came up with there was a 'special main event' in San Francisco (..) it was a 'special main event' that was put in the middle. I mean it was just a contractual garbage thing." (3 Sides of the Coin Podcast)

Eric Bischoff, even though he wasn't involved in WCW anymore for months, did comment on the fight on 83 Weeks Podcast in 2020 after reiterating his view that the Demon character should not continue after he and Kiss were no longer involved with it: "It was horrible. (...) Neither one of these guys were capable of having a payperview quality match, unfortunately"

Kissonline.com was present at the fight and took some photos
