Chapter 13: The Demon vs Billy Kidman - February 7, 2000

The Demon returned to Monday Nitro on February 7th to fight his first match on that show. His opponent was Billy Kidman. Kidman I was familiar with, he was always a filler back in the days and looks like a skateboard kid so I expected (and hoped) that The Demon will wipe the floor with him. That wasn't so, and to me that match defined The Demon's unfortunate place in WCW.

It was also a beginning of an unusual for any wrestler losing streak for The Demon. Well, maybe not that unusual for D listers but I would think The Demon was at least a notch above any other regular D listers/beginners. Here another view of how low key and how sidelined this Demon was. The Sarcophagus is just put on the side by the barricades, outside of the set even, with just a subtle red light.

The interesting thing about that fight is that on this show The Demon started incorporating more theatrics into his entrance. As if his entrance wasn't phenomenal enough, he also drooled blood when he got to the ring, presumably biting a blood capsule. Props to Dale Torborg for thinking of more ways to enhance the character

The commentators praise his theatrics again

Tony Shiavone: "Billy Kidman in the ring, and his opponent makes one of the most impressive entrances in all of WCW. If you're a Kiss fan or even if you're not a Kiss fan, I think you're impressed by this"

Scott Hudson: "Don't forget the guy's a lifelong Kiss fan"

Shiavone: "Quite an entrance, The Demon"

While he's walking to the ring, we cut to a wrestler called Crowbar (a kind of a twitchy lunatic with a crowbar) watching the show live, saluting and rocking out to the God Of Thunder theme

It's not just Kidman's style that makes him look like a skateboard youngster, but his size as well

The fight itself wasn't long, and while there was some offense on The Demon's part and the fight seemed evened out as they usually do for some time, Kidman beat him fair and square with knockout using his signature move and it took only a few minutes.

After the Demon's loss, Crowbar appears onstage, attacks Kidman and then bows before The Demon. The Demon is not impressed, walks around him and leaves. It looks like Crowbar is starting to follow The Demon but we cut to something else and this thing with Crowbar is never addressed again

Earlier in this episode, Crowbar found The Demon's sarcophagus (everyone seems to be stumbling upon it), touches it in amazement and headbangs next to it
