Chapter 11: The Demon vs Norman Smiley - February 2, 2000

The culmination of the feud between Norman Smiley and The Demon was on WCW Thunder the very next day, on February 1st. Norman Smiley comes out in a Kiss costume and makeup again. The Demon uses the sarcophagus for the entrance, and it is the first time this new Demon does so and it's very effective, even if cut short because once it opens he rushes onstage in anger. While the emerging of the sarcophagus is great, it's hard not to notice more "budget cuts" in the character. The original sarcophagus appeared in the center of the entrance, with fog, lasers, special effect lights, bombs going off and the giant spiderweb rig behind him creating a ring of flares. Dale's Demon will always have just the sarcophagus by itself, with just red light, simply wheeled in off to the side of the walking ramp (basically, outside of the set). Below couple of screenshots form future shows showing the placement of The Demon's entrance. Completely sidelined

It is less noticeable on Thunder show, where the set dressing is very busy in the back, but the sarcophagus on that show, like on Nitro, was always just wheeled in on the side of the set by the audience barricades, with only a red light accompanying him.

He immediately starts to rip the costume off Smiley and wipes his makeup off, which is exactly what Kiss fans would cheer him to do, to end this mockery.

With The Demon pissed off, ripping the whole thing off Smiley, things looked like they were getting back on track (he even has the pants on this time) until Smiley actually won in a similar fashion Terry Funk did - by grabbing The Demon in such way that he couldn't free himself, or actually, having no other way out than to tap out.

Right after the gong Smiley ran offstage and The Demon sprinted after him.

Fortunately, at least for some time, this was the end of that silly comedic skit with Smiley. It's also interesting to note that Smiley wore the leather version of Demon's pants, while The Demon wore the spandex version. It was also the last appearance of the original belt, which Smiley wore during his walk to the ring here as well
