Saturday Night show has always been very good for The Demon, the only place where he could win against some first time trainees and shine. Not this time though. Even Saturday Night was hard on The Demon this night.
The Demon was given a chance for a title for the very first time for WCW US Championship against Jeff Jarrett. While it may sound like a big deal in writing, the truth is it was a very low key fight on a lowest rated show which was about to get cancelled due to low ratings.
Jeff Jarrett came out first with his two goons and started talking for few minutes in relation to the story he had going on. Jarrett was a newcomer for WCW and I couldn't figure out how anyone would give the guy a push to top spot. Such an uninteresting dime a dozen guy. Then again, at that time WCW was trying to be like WWF, meaning no movie-based characters, no mystique, less horror or scifi characters and mostly short haired guys in speedos. Interestingly enough it will be The Demon who will be involved in some time with the only "horror" angled story. But not yet.
So anyway, Jarrett keeps badmouthing his opponents at the same time subtly promoting his fight in an upcoming payperview when finally The Demon comes out. As always on the "low budget" Saturday Night show, The Demon simply steps out from behind the logo and this time doesn't drool blood either.
Jarret escapes the ring in fear of him which is great, but once he steps back The Demon gets it again. He just gets constant beating in and out of ring for few minutes after which he gets a three count and then gets a guitar smashed on his head. He didn't got any offensive.
Interesting to note that The Demon's fans were becoming a more common sight
